Velonews is the cause of the current drug crisis facing the sport of cycling.
Why would I say this? It’s quite simple really, doping at the level it is practiced today would simply not be taking place if there weren’t large sums of money available to fund it. The money in cycling comes from but a single source: advertising media. It is not a stretch to say that a Tour de France without media and without advertisers would be a very different Tour indeed. Even boycotting coverage of certain riders, let alone races themselves, would have a profound effect on the perceived value sponsorship of a given rider was really worth.
If you’ve read this far then you’ll no doubt realize I’m baiting you, baiting you to use the absolute power the media has with respect to the drug crisis facing our sport for a purpose higher than making money this very month of July.
